International Day of Prayer and Awareness Against Human Trafficking

8 February 2018

On February 8 the inaugural mass to mark the International Day of Prayer and Awareness Against Human Trafficking was celebrated at St Patrick's Cathedral.
Emmanuel College was represented by Year 11 student Augustine Kadende, who had the privilege of serving at the altar, and Ms Jenny Webster.
The International Day was instituted by Pope Francis, and coincides with the Feast Day of St Josephine Bakhita, who herself was forced into slavery from her native Sudan.
The Mass was celebrated by the Very Reverend Joe Caddy (nephew of the late Fr Joe McMahon - after whom the McMahon Language Centre is named), who is the Episcopal Vicar for Social Services and Justice for the Archdiocese of Melbourne. Co-celebrating with Fr Joe was visiting priest Fr Stephen Majwok, from the Malakal Diocese in South Sudan.
