Dr Marcus McMahon (SPC class of 1989) is a specialist in respiratory medicine and sleep disorders, working at Epworth Healthcare. Recently he's been part of an international collaborative effort to work on new methods of detecting cases of COVID-19.

The free online CovED platform will help doctors to diagnose cases through lung CT scans. Not only can the platform teach doctors to improve their skills in detecting the illness, but the scans are quick to perform and can pick up signs of COVID-19 before other testing methods.

CovEd has the potential to ease the burden on over-stretched medical professionals, and could be particularly useful in developing countries, who may not have ready access to medical specialists.

You can find out more about CovED here.

We're very pleased to have Marcus as a mentor in the College's new mentoring program, where Year 11 students are paired with an Old Collegian who works in a field the student would like to pursue as a career.
